I just heard about this on the radio this week. If Wal-Mart paid all of its workers $12/hour (a living wage in most places), it could lift more than 40% of its employees out of poverty. And if they passed the entire cost onto consumers, it would only increase prices by 1.1%, an average of 46 cents per shopping trip — $12.49 per shopper per year.
